Welcome Summer!
It's hard to believe that it is summer vacation already. The school year flies by so quickly. Just because school is out for the summer does not mean that learning stops. Below I have compiled a list of books that make excellent summer reading. If you are entering my class in the fall, you will see the required reading books below.
For my 5th grade graduates:
Clements, Andrew FRINDLE;THE LANDRY NEWS; THE SCHOOL STORY

Creech, Sharon GRANNY TORELLI MAKES SOUP; RUBY HOLLER; HEARTBEAT

For my incoming 5th graders, please read the following:

After reading this, write a 1 page summary of the book. List out the characters and give a description of each. Also include a paragraph of your opinion of the book. Did you like it? Did you not like it? Be sure to include reasons to support your opinion.
Choose one of the following to read. After reading your choice create a advertisement for your book. Make it colorful and persuade others to read the book. I suggest using a standard piece of poster board. Be creative!
James Collier MY BROTHER SAM IS DEAD
Carroll Thomas MATTY'S WAR
Carolyn Redder SHADES OF GRAY
Practice your basic math facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will have timed tests on Fridays.
Consider journalling about your summer. It can include drawings and pictures. Be sure to include the exciting and not so exciting days of the summer.
See you soon!
